Liz Milburn is an impressionist artist, working from her home studio in Bucklebury, West Berkshire. Her paintings celebrate the changing nature of light, colour and atmosphere. Artist Ken Howard's book Inspired by Light has majorly informed her work. Rather than seeking photographic precision, her paintings aim to capture the character, emotion and movement of a scene. Originally a telecommunications engineer, she turned to painting whilst living in the South of France with her family.

Her latest exhibition showcases the vibrancy of Mediterranean Life in the places she has travelled to. “I wanted to capture the atmosphere I experienced when sitting down for a coffee and sketching the scenes around me”.

Each piece starts life as a sketch, quickly transformed into a small watercolour to capture the essence of the scene. Taking influence from the impressionist artists, Liz then creates a larger scale acrylic representation in her studio, using larger brushes to capture the energy of everyday life. She is a member of the Oxford Art Society, and regularly shows her work with Little Van Gogh.

"Little did I think when I chose the exhibition title “Mediterranean Life” that we would be going to have a hot mediterranean summer here. I have visited many mediterranean countries throughout my life, including living in the South of France near Nice. On my first trip abroad, we caught a train from Calais to Bordeaux, had steak frites with a glass of wine, watched bats flying in the air, and it was still warm enough to sit outside. I was hooked … I hope these paintings remind you of your travels and bring you as much joy as I had painting them."
